Cleveland, TN—Thousands of delegates are headed to San Antonio, Texas, for the 78th International General Assembly, which officially begins Tuesday morning, July 26 with the opening session of the General Council.
Assembly committee meetings and Exhibit Hall setup, as well as on-site registration and packet pick up starts on Sunday, July 24 in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center (HBGCC). Registration begins at 2:00 pm that day, while the exhibit hall is scheduled to open Monday at 12:00 noon.
Pre-Assembly events and meetings are on tap for Monday, July 25, most notably the popular LEAD Conference, which takes place from 1:00 – 4:30 pm in the Lila Cockrell Theater of the HBGCC. Speakers for LEAD include Tod Bolsinger, Amanda Crabb, Maury Davis, and Larry Stockstill. LEAD is free to all registered delegates. World Missions will be holding a recognition banquet that night for individual and state/region award winners (invitation only).
The General Council convenes for the first time in four years on Tuesday, July 26, following a postponement from 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The body of ordained bishops will first deal with the question of tenure for leaders that were supposed to be voted upon in 2020. The measure will then be decided by a special convening of the General Assembly at 10:30 am. Nomination of leaders, including the Executive Committee, World Missions, and Youth and Discipleship directors will take place on Tuesday afternoon.
The opening day of the General Assembly will conclude with an opening celebration at 7:00 pm titled, “I Never Lost My Praise,” with multiple musical guests, including Geron Davis, Amanda Crabb, and the Voices of Lee. General Overseer Tim Hill will deliver a message centered on the Assembly theme, “A Church on Mission.”
Online registration continues for the remainder of this week at churchofgod.org or ga22.org. Business sessions, worship services, the exhibit hall and most events will be conducted at the HGBCC.
